In August 2025, UWRF welcomed Italian and English wheelchair rugby friends for training, practical support, and shared learning. The federation remembers the visit as a turning point between introducing the sport and building a programme with stronger equipment and international relationships.
Before the journey, Égalité described a mission led by Romanes Wheelchair Rugby with plans to bring eight used sports wheelchairs, spare parts, medical supplies, and hands-on technical knowledge to Kampala.
More than a delivery
The visitors planned player training, coaching support, rules and refereeing workshops, and wheelchair-maintenance learning. Carrying equipment in person also created time to understand the conditions Ugandan athletes navigate, from transport and venue access to storage and repairs.
That approach mattered. A donated chair only remains useful when it fits an athlete, can be maintained, and forms part of regular training. Skills shared with players, officials, and local organisers can continue long after a short visit.
Friendship with a practical purpose
Ugandan athletes and their visitors shared court sessions and community time, while media engagement helped introduce the project to a wider audience. The programme connected sporting ambition with equipment, health, dignity, and peer solidarity.
Tugende 2025 also created relationships that helped make later competition possible. UWRF continues to welcome international friendship that is led by local priorities and includes a clear plan for long-term use of donated equipment.
